OK Team, one more go at this so everyone can get on board and we can move forward. Let’s finally get convinced that building some muscle in addition to your aerobic routine is going to exponentially help you lose fat and keep it off.
Weight training increases your lean body mass. Increasing lean body mass speeds up your metabolic rate so you burn more calories at rest (your basal metabolic rate).
If you continue to focus on diet and aerobic exercise alone to achieve your fat loss goals you may reach your goal, but without sufficient weight training to maintain or build new muscle maintaining your new weight will be difficult.
Say for example you can not continue the aerobic regimen that helped you loose the fat, but you will continue to diet to maintain the weight you have achieved. Great thought, but people who go on diets end up lowering their metabolic rate, which means when they go off the diet, they put on fat more easily than before they started. This is because they have lost muscle and they have lowered their metabolic rate and the vicious cycle continues.
I will continue on this topic with some posts on how to incorporate weight training into your program. Remember, weight training is not just for jocks and bodybuilders, it’s for all of us to stay healthy, injury free and get "Beach Ready for Life!"
If you are ready to make the commitment, get ready to change your life!

Greg is absolutely right. I started strength training (using Chalene Extreme) in February and I am getting stronger each week. I've lost almost 20 pounds and my clothes are getting looser, but one of the biggest changes is that I am keeping up with my kids and able to run and play with them without getting out of breath. Now, I just need to clean up my diet along with continuing the strength/cardio training, so the weight can continue coming off.
